It’s Going To Rain Tonight 《今晚要下雨》 is more than just 6 songs

— it’s a surreal little world I’ve been building over the past 3 years.

Inspired by a passing comment from a repairman (“It’s going to rain tonight”), the project grew into a concept EP about the quiet tension before change — in weather, relationships, or life.

The packaging, created with @heretherestudio, imagines a parallel world guarded by rabbits and horses, where time blurs and a raindrop signals transformation. The creatures in this alternate world can’t be judged by the good-vs-evil logic of our own world. Their presence reminds us: this is not reality — and that’s why it can hold more raw emotions, more truth, more unresolved longing. 🫧

The transparent plastic layer in the packaging makes the CD glow like the sun of this imagined world, ☀️flickering between illusion and reality, blurring the clues of time and space.

Back when I was doing my graduate studies at Parsons, I created some mixed-media works around this same theme — so this EP is really just one part of a bigger ongoing narrative.☁️

One of my professors once told me:

A project can be making sense of a project.”🤯 That line stayed with me throughout the making of this physical release whenever I felt like giving up on the physical prints.(cuz it was a lot of back and forth and miscommunication, wrong prints, etc). But through this process, I also learned every step it takes to release a physical record independently in China. Isn’t that what we’re always doing anyway —making sense of the world we’re living in? 🌍
